Samsung hd204ui 2Tb PCB broken

Hi, you will find attached a pic with the "thing" burned!... Could you please tell me if I can find a new PCB to swap or if it is possible to take it off this chip and the disk could work? I really dont want loose 2TB!

Do you know if I can change this microchip? I cant see the details of it, do you know what it is?

The hd is not recognized by the system, and the arm of the disk beat 3/4 times...

All the things begins when I smelled like something was burning...

That component is an STJ009 MOSFET. It forms part of the -5V supply for the preamp.

What is the history of the drive? Did you subject it to an overvoltage?

Do you have a multimeter? You will need to confirm that the preamp is not shorting the -5V supply, otherwise you will be wasting money on a replacement PCB or IC.

Ok, yes I have a multimeter, how should I do to know the 5v?

Nop, I didnt have a overlvoltage, it seems like the metal of the machine touch the PCB and made some kind of short-circuit. My mistake, It wasnt screw it I was backing up making a hdclone.

Measure the resistance between the -5V and GND test points using the 200 ohms range of your meter. Do this with the drive powered off and with the PCB mounted on the drive.

If the resistance is low, then remove the PCB and repeat the measurements.

The measure was... in the negative place was -10V and the other side (positive), +0.4.

Check the Hard disk PCB without connecting to power supply.
Use Resistance range of 200 Ohms in multimeter.
What is the reading you got??
Remove the PCB from the Hard drive and again check the readings.
The values will tell if there is an internal short causing the component to heat up.

You've measured the voltage instead of the resistance, but never mind. Your results prove that the preamp is not shorted. However, if the voltage really is -10V, then the preamp is most probably dead, in which case DIY is no longer an option.

That said, if the STJ009 MOSFET were dead as you initially stated, then one would not expect to see any voltage at the -5V test point. Instead it appears that either the motor controller is not regulating the negative supply correctly, or your meter is reading incorrectly. In fact you are the third person I have encountered who has reported voltage values (on different boards) that were twice their expected values. Does your meter have a flat battery? If you measure the voltage of a 1.5V alkaline battery or your car's 12V battery, what does the meter show?
