Hello All
I took out my Western Digital 80gb HDD from storage after 2years to get some photos from it. the hdd started clicking then it spins and stops then spins again. I connected it using an ide to usb adaptor. My pc does pick it up in disk management but not my computer. I tried to initialize it but it said it cannot find file or something like that.
Is there any way I can get my files back
thanks
Jenny

Hi, you can try to put the drive directly to the motherboard...if that fails and the drive still clicks, you'll need a pro to get your files back.
Clicking WD drives usaly meens bad heads, but in 0.2% of the cases it can be the Pcb (circuit board).

Agreed, first rule out the adaptor. Use drive as internal and see if the behaviour is the same. If yes, then you need a pro.
PS. If you want to recover the data, why did you try to initialize the drive?
