Hitachi deskstar 80.4Gb broken pcb?

Hello Friends!;

I'm really in trouble.... Took alot of photos on a friends wedding and moved them from camera to computer. Went to bed, got up and power on the computer.... Hard drive is not spinning. Bios doesn't recognize hd.
Measured every possible voltage on the PCB... Looked here on forum and google for help to locate some fuses, but no luck... Took another deskstar disk (almost same pcb) and the disk started to spin so I'm thinking some voltage/fuse are burnt. The 90G2018 and IBM something and 47P3600 IC:s are not getting hot. Do you have some idea of electronics(using multimeter and checking components) and soldering skills?
Else take the help of someone who can do it confidently.
DIY is risky business, and chances of making matters worse is high.
You can try testing voltages at Q2.

An easier way will be to get a matching PCB for your hard disk.

I see that you have a nikon d50 camera.
Have you thought about trying dr software like R-Studio on the SD card to see if you can recover the photo's that way?
Advice stop taking photo's & saving them to this sd card as you will over write the sectors & lose any chance of recovery from the SD card.

I have skills in measuring and soldering (20 years or so). Found on this forum some info on Q1,Q2,Q3 and U9. I measured all (Voltage) and they were all identical. J3 (connection to spindle) should have 5.84 V but in my case, of course, 0.264V....
Is there not any -5V on the pcb?? Vcc and Vss pins on 90G2018?

It seems that none of "big" Ic:s are working, no heat at all...

Loki; Yes Nikon D-50. Some Years old but a wonderfull camera . thanks for the info. No I haven't tried any recover progs. If that works the wedding pictures could be saved, and my A$$, but theres alot of other pic's that I also woukd like to save (on the deskstar-disc)...

same as working values mentioned in the forum??

90G2018 can be the faulty controller, but you should isolate other possibilities before replacing this controller.

As Loki suggested, you better recover your photos from the SD card of the camera and later think about fixing this drive.
As you said, the drive started spinning with another similar PCB, try getting an identical one as

@Johan, if you decide to replace the PCB, I believe you will need to move the NVRAM IC (LC66, U7) to your donor. Some PCB suppliers, eg donordrives.com, will do this for you free of charge.

OTOH, if you wish to pursue troubleshooting your PCB, I have a similar board (but no HDD) that I could use for voltage comparisons.

As for your question regarding the -5V supply, there are two dual diodes, D1 and D2, on the other side of the PCB. I believe the middle pins will be the ground and -5V (?) test points. I expect that the circuit for the -5V supply would be similar to the -5V DC-DC converter in the following tutorial:
