Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi,
I've seen a number of postings asking for the output of a hard drive's terminal log is retrieved and included in postings.
I am trying to recover the data from a Seagate Momentus 4200.3 80GB hard drive and it sounds like it would be useful if I can get the hard drive's terminal log out of it.
I assume that a serial connection needs to be made from my PC to the hard drive, but how do I found out where on the hard drive's PCB the TX and ground connections would be?
I can deal with the other end of the cable, as I've wired up many a modem and null-modem cable in my pre-Ethernet IT days!
Any help with the terminal log would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Richard.
