WDCWD20EARS-00MVWB0 BIOS detect but no boot

January 4th, 2013, 10:39

Hello, i've this WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0 which gets detected in bios but doesn't boot in windows nor in MHDD.
The drive does not do any clicking sounds and motor keeps spinning.
When i try to load it in MHDD it hangs in the first black screen so i can't test it, the only way i was able to do some test was in Sediv (connecting the sata cable after windows loads on the primary drive).

I don't know what's wrong, maybe you can help me, here i post more informations:

Could be bad sectors.
Do you want to repair it or get the information?

Hello

If the drive is detected in BIOS, most chances that you can have it in windows (May be in raw / unpartionned)

Try to get an image or clone from the defective drive (HDD RAW COPY TOOL / GNU DDRESCUE)

DO NOT INITIALIZE IT / OR WRITE THING / CHKDSK / SCANDISK / ... UNLESS YOU WANT TO MAKE IT WORSE

Then run R studio / Get data Back / Files Scanvanger / What kind of software that you want to recover this logical issue on the clone

Run this on folling drive in not a good idea

if you not sure and the data is important to your eyes, take contact to a pro, or you ll be only have your eye to cry is you do it wrong.

Take Care

Yep, clone the drive is the best action.

Thank u all but as i said, the drive doesn't load with any software, neither with DOS software as MHDD, DMDE, Mediatools, this means that i can't do a clone.
The only sw which loads the drive is sediv because it loads the drive in safe mode, which doesn't access to user data but only into the firmware area.

The smart log tells that there are not any reallocated sectors (only 2 pending), but G-list has 18 entrys, i don't know why but maybe it's this the issue.
Waiting some more opinions by gurus about this...

Thanks.

Quite possibly a bad head in there, preventing translator initialising properly.

Not DIY

Thank you pcimage for your answer.
To change the heads with compatible one, i need a donator drive.

Can you help me to find the right drive? What should i look on the label drive to get the compatible heads?

Just buy a hdd of the same model which is WDCWD20EARS-00MVWB0 or must match other scripts on the label?

P.S.
I know the risks of diy, but the data are not important, only avi files of tv series downloads

Yess, surely heads because now they are getting noisy.
I turned off and i will not turn on again!!!!

I want to ask you gurus if you understood that the problem was heads by reading the Zone 0 preamp parameters?

In the 4th log i posted, it says:
Action: Read Head map..................OK!
