Segate Baracuda 2TB not spinning

January 23rd, 2013, 3:54

Hi Guys,

I got a Segate 2TB 3.5" which doesn't spin at all.
I tested the TV's diodes and they are good.
I bought an exact good donor PCB and installed it on the patient drive as is, the drive spines but doesn't come ready as expected as ROM was not transferred.

I transferred the ROM from the Patient PCB to the donor PCB and installed it back to the drive - the result is that it behaves the same as the patient PCB - doesn't spin up at all.
It looks like there is some problem with the ROM chip.

Any ideas how to regenerate the ROM of the drive? is it possible at all with this drives, i have Segate Doctor no PC3K.

Thx

I have good ideas, unfortunately seems that don't work in Australia
More unfortunately, I cannot handle a single more case at the moment (if you see me on the forum it's just beacuse I'm "babysitting" stuff, not because I'm in "idle mode") so I cannot help - just in case.

P.S. Get UDMA as soon as possible even if it won't be of help in this case.

Hi Michael,

In the case above i re-did the ROM soldering and it solved the problem.
The soldering contacts weren't sitting properly so it did the trick.
I'm not aware of regenerating these ROM's for seagate.

Cheers,
Oded
