WD5000BEVT500GB HDD shows 2048 GB in the Bios

February 9th, 2013, 7:41

WD5000BEVT500GB HDD shows 2048 GB in the Bios. The Status shows unallocated in the Bios.

IN Hddgurusºs Raw Copy tool, it shows Initio INIC-1610P with no additional information. What could be the problem ? Your usual expert advise is highly appreciated.

How is this connected?

USB or SATA?

It is an External Drive. I have tried with the USB connection first, and then took out the USB adaptor and checked it with Sata. Same result.

That's what I figured (USB)

I don't think you're quite right (same result)... If you tested via SATA (no USB) then it CAN'T have picked up the Initio controller.

Which is it?

Pcimage,

You are right, when connected directly to the desktop PCs Sata port, it is not detected in Windows Disk management, when it is connected to the PC with its own Sata-to-USB adaptor (a small PCB), it is not detected either. But, with a third Party Sata-USb adaptor, it is detected but is chown as uninitialized.

I tried to see the SMART in bootmed, the drive is detected, it shows it as "not partitioned", SMART not supported. The HDD is a WD 2.5 inch.

In Bios, it is detected as 2.1 TB. There is no name. In MHDD, it is not detected

Spildit wrote:When you connect it with the sata port to the motherboar sata port is it correctly detected on POST (BIOS) ? Does it show the correct size/name if you connect it to the sata port and run MHDD ? If so just leave it connected directly to a sata port and image it to another drive (or try to run R-Studio and recover the important files to ANOTHER DRIVE).
