Barracuda 7200.11: Firmware bug or defect

February 14th, 2013, 14:34

Hello everybody,
I have a Seagate hard drive which isn't recognized from Bios anymore. Also, when powering, it makes some kind of periodic "klick" noises...
The hdd is a Barracuda 7200.11 which is vulnerable from the Seagate Firmware bug a few years ago (see e.g. http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Barracuda- ... td-p/45701)
This bug leads to hdd not recognized anymore and there are ways to fix this with some DIY cable and console etc.

But as I understood, if the hdd would have this firmware bug the hdd should anyway spins up normally and is just not recognized...

I've made a video where you can hear the click noise and I would like to ask if it would make sense to try the firmware bug fixing or if it is definitely some mechanical defect which can't be fixed in an easy way.

Some information:

Seagate Barracude 7200.11
500 GB
S/N: 9QM60VH5
Modell: ST3500820AS
Firmware: SD25

Thank you very much in advance

This is not a clic noise, but beep beep...
Very mostly is head stuck, anyway he needs a pro to fix it in clean room.

Usually this kind of issue is due to a bad power supply or bad cables, but now is too late...
