WD1001FAES 75W7A0 No spin up

February 20th, 2013, 11:20

Please help me for no spin up HDD to recovery data

Drive : WD1001FAES 75W7A0 1TB
PCB : 1060701640-002 Rev.A

Symptom : No Spin up
Trial : adding insulation paper between PCB and Actuator connector , then Spin up
(please refer to photo)

My suspected cause
1. not head damage
2. Actuator amplification chip may be damaged
3. actuator electrical circuit may "short" or "break"

I will plan to replace head actuator assembly.
If you know that type of failure ,Please share your experience and solution.
Do you have advice?

Thanks in advance

if isolating actuator causes spin it is likely preamp + PCB, replace both (cant really replace preamp, so replace headstack), if pcb has external rom solder this to new compatible board.

keep in mind all internal work should be done in a clean environment (not a clean bathroom, a REAL cleanroom or laminar flow bench)

Best of luck!

I should also add that even with heads replacement and board replace + ROM replacement, these usually need extra adjustment via specialist tools such as pc3000 to get them to clone.

They rarely just work even with new heads in them, especially with new heads in them actually, even matching heads.
