Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

OK, so I have actually managed to recover the data on this one but I would like to know exactly what happened. Drive came in with LBA clipped to 66 million odd, unclipped and then passed all the tests on Insight and PC3000 other than when trying to read the data. It would pass media test, could read all the modules, logical tests etc but if i went to image drive every sector would fail to read on the Insight and PC3000 did a software reset after reading every block so would have taken months to image.
Could read individual sectors through PC3000 Utility so new something was up.
Set DE to read through active utility rather than UDMA 66/33 and bang I could image drive.
Can someone tell me why?? Although I have used PC3000 a reasonable amount I still have a massive amount to learn on it and this might help.
Thanks

I will answer my own question then. Appears to have been a translator issue. Hmmm
