Can you recognize by the sound the cause of my HDD's failur?

February 21st, 2013, 11:03

Hi, my hdd failed out of the blue.

When i try to power it on, it starts to spin, and after half a second or so, a soft click is heard and then it stops. Right after it tries to resume, so there's an infinite loop of spinning, clicking, stoping, spining etc.

Here you can hear the sound it makes so you can get an idea.

Can you help me? Does anyone know what kind of problem is this?
Is it worth taking it to the experts, or it's some kind of scratched disk and i would only lose time and money?

Thank you.

More info:
it's a seagate baracuda 7200.11 which was left always still in an external enclosure. It was monitored by a s.m.a.r.t. program (HDD sentinel), but i did not get any warnings.
I know this series is problematic but the firmware on it is cc1h (it's supposed to be trouble-free)
