Is it possible to unlock a Hitachi drive yet??

March 21st, 2013, 7:23

Hi, got my old laptop drive..

Had a ram problem, out of use for a week or two..

Fixed that, went to boot up and wont accept the HDD password..

Thought the password was George Martin (aka game of thrones..)

Spent a long time researching the ability to clear the password, not worried about the data, but I came to the conclusion that you can clear the passwords on most brands, but not Hitachi..

model HTS542520K92A00
200GIG
SATA
HITACHI
2.5"

Came supplied with my Toshiba Equium A300D.

Just my luck..

That was some time ago (7 months or so..)

Wondered if there had been any developments since I researched or whether some Guru/Jedi HDD Master   on here would know of a way.

Seems a bit soul destroying to chuck it in the bin just because I can't remember the password..

many thanks.. :) :)

Most disks prevent access to data when ATA security is active. Hitachi prevent access to both data and SA making it more complicated and impossible with non-specialist equipment.

If you 100% cannot remember password or is not accepted, then you would need to get this unlocked by a professional. Alternatively, as data is not important, replace it and sell this for spares on ebay :)
