My passport WD2500XMS-00
250 GB
Drive WD2500BEAS-0URT00
PCB number 2060-701499-000
White bar code sticker PCB 2061-701499-200 AB
I can see the drive in device manager XP,
not showing in explorer.
In lubuntu 12.10 the Disk Utility can see the drive, but....
2.2 TB Hard Disk
Model External HDD (1.04)
Disk size 2.2 TB (2199023255552 bytes)
Serial Number 202020202020202020202020
Asessment SMART is not supported
I have seen this symptom on the internet, but not the cause of it...
All the voltage check point is ok on the PCB 1.2 and 3.3 Volt
Could this be a bad motor control chip?
Any info on firmware info is appreciated.
How to read ore check.
Must the bar code sticker number match if you not want to change MCU on a PCB swap.
Thanks in advance!

Do you need the data inside the drive ? What caused the problem, did it stop working from one moment to the other or you aquire it on ebay and it was like that when you recieved it ?

Ups...![]()
Yes, I would try to recover the data.
I need the data inside.
I don't know what caused it, not been used for years, and was not working when I tryed it recently.
I bought the drive new spring 2008
Production date on the HDD 18 NOV 2007
But was it working fine ? Did you aquire it on a shop ?
Worked ok for some time and only recently you have that problem ?
Just trying to understand if the drive is some sort of "fake" aquired on ebay or china ....
If the drive is indeed a true WD (not a box with a pen drive inside) then data should still be there, the issue is, it will be dificult to get it back by yourself.
You will most likely need to take the drive to a data recovery firm near you for evaluation.
Can you ear the sound of the heads moving ? Does it "clicks" ?
Does it really spins up ?
I can think of Head Stuck, Spindle Stuck, PCB damage, Head damage, etc ....
Very dificult to say without looking at the drive.
That serial number is "strange" too ... Did you or someone else tryed to use some tools on the drive that might have caused changes to the serial number ?

Maybe it's stiction then .... Does it sound as "humming" ? Can you record the sound of the drive while trying to spin up ? Maybe heads got stuck to the platter or the spindle got jammed .....
At any rate you will not be able to solve it by yourself without a great risk to the data ....

I also powered up the PCB itself, then a got power on the motor contacts for a few second,
before its shut down... Could not measure voltage twice then, but could be wrong measure.
Is it shutting down DT failure ore missing some feedback?
Then the blue led was not blinking, looks like short, when connected to HDD
