Restoring from a WindowsImageBackup

April 4th, 2013, 20:43

Hello,

Basics:
I have a Windows Image Backup (roughly 56 gigs). It was created using the Backup and Restore program in windows 7 Control panel. The file type is .vhd.

When I attempt to restore, I go to backup and Restore in the control panel --> under Restore I click "Recover System settings or your computer" --> follow the prompts, and it restarts. I go through a few screens when I get to a screen that says
"To restore this computer windows needs to format the drive that the Windows Recovery Environment is currently running on. To continue with the restore, shut down this computer and boot it from a windows installation disc or a system repair disk and then try to restore.
If you do not have a system repair disk, you can create one now."
I then have the options to: Create disk, go back to the previous screen, next (which is grayed out, which is my problem), or cancel.

When I click on the create disk button, I get a pop up window stating that "System recovery operation failed. Click OK to restart the system."

What are my options? I have to get this data back. The hard drive belongs to the CFO of my company.
PLEASE HELP ME!

Thank you!

Hello David92595,

what exactly do you need. Data from backup or restore backup to drive.
If you need data from backup, try this http://blogs.technet.com/b/danstolts/ar ... 0_way.aspx
If you will restore drive from backup:
1. backup current drive to image or another drive(just in case, that user will need some data(better more backup's then none)
2. follow
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... age-backup
