Maxtor IDE 80 GB ic on pcb burnt, replaced board ,

April 19th, 2013, 8:24

hi
i have maxtor ide hard disk . one of the chip on its pcb burnt. and i replaced the logic board with another one . the snap of harddisk is attached. the replacement board was from same harddisk. though the bigger chip is made by different manafacturers. its own board had agere chip and the new one is ardent ..

i unfortunately left the faulty original pcb in the shop and its lost . thats my big mistake.

now the issue is that it is recognized in the bios .

but when i attach it along with other harrdisk which has my widows the windows wont load .it hangs there .

i tried numerous data recovery software and bootable cds and same behaviour on all ,, they would freeze on loading ..

i tried attaching only the faulty hdd and booting ubuntu live cd and it would hang as well

i also tried hiren boot cd .. the boot cd menu would appear but if i selected any data recovery software it would hang.

i tried it through usb to ide converter and here is the screen shot attached and windows 7 would give error in installing the driver .

also once i was able to detect it through some software and that showed my two out of three partitions and the data . but that time i couldnt backup it as i had only attached the faulty hdd.

after that i have never been able to detect it by any software ..

now if i hunt for new logic board what should i consider to be matched looking at the images below. and what else can i do ?
thanks

thanks for the reply and that link is a treasure trove ..

i have sent hard disk to recovery expert hope they find a matching pcb . .mine has no firmware chip .. so by just replacing the board would it allow me to see the data or i have to do some more labour ?

thanks

Can you recognise your PCB in the following photos?

Can you recall which chip was damaged?

Should be fairly easy on this model.

Although sometimes they have am extra ROM at U401, which you want have as you don't have the original PCB.
