ST31000528AS donor weirdness

April 30th, 2013, 13:19

ONE of the the heads in my clients drive started reading extremely slowly; obviously i order a donor to replace the heads stack (after i made a copy of the data on 3 working out of 4 heads). The donor is incompatible (drive never gets recognized, just clicks), I cant figure out why... It doesnt say its refurbished and everything that has to match, matched. I put the donor heads back and it works fine and as well the original drive.

Just wondering anyone else experienced this before, I ordered and replaced heads on these 100's of times without an issue.

Have you looked at the heads really close?

what do you mean really close? the head stack is identical, aside from the fact that it doesnt work :-\

According to my experience and matching criteria, that donor doesn't look compatible for heads.

Or maybe I'm being too picky :-)

Im my experience just certain numbers of the S/N have to match to make it work. Had 99.5% percent success doing it that way over 8 years. This is the first time it doesnt match; anyways, guess I'll have to order another donor and see what happens. Thanks anyways.
