Hi all,
I have been reading on the forum and it looks like the hdd is dead, but just in case I'd be glad to get an extra opinion. My wd passport is not starting anymore, LED lights up but it does not start nor is recognized by Windows. After listening more carefully, a faint buzzing sound comes from the hdd. See the picture attached above for the origin of the sound and this link (
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bwu5m8i ... sp=sharing ) to hear the sound.
What do you guys (and gals) think this is ?

100% stiction problem (heads stuck on platter).
Any decent lab can do it, and assuming there is no other problem with the drive (damaged heads etc), and you do NOT tinker with it, it should be recoverable and shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.
PS. If you value your data, ignore the internet tricks you might come across, and consult a pro.
