Need Help With Seagate ST9320325AS

Hi,
I have a Seagate ST9320325AS where the head just slides all over the platters. I tried a donor PCB but still did the same thing. The heads look like they have no damage. The only thing I can think of is the head needs to be replaced or the motor is not spinning fast enough but I'm very new at this and I could be wrong. Opening the drive in a computer room (i.e. not in a cleanroom) was a very bad idea. I don't know if the spin-down at the end of your video was you removing the power, or if the drive spun-down on its own, but either way, you are unlikely to fix this yourself, based on what has been done already, and your lack of experience. All just IMHO, sorry...

If you give the history leading up to this situation (i.e. how did this problem first start, was the drive knocked/dropped, where was it originally being used etc.) then there may be some clues in that info - we won't know until you explain.

The drive wasn't open in a computer room it was open on a laminar flow clean bench in a clean room environment. When I set my camera down before I opened the cover I turned on the bench. I also powered down the drive using a DDI. My company has a clean room and my boss has let me use it to try and recover my friend's drive. My friend said the drive just died .

My apologies - you didn't explain any details and that looked like the bottom of a computer room rack, like the 100s I've seen over the years.

The drive spins-up, so that doesn't fit with my interpretation of died. I could ask a bunch of questions to try to find out what your friend means, but since you've got a DDI and perhaps other equipment, exactly what diagnosis have you already done so far and what were the results?

Judging by the sound it makes, this drive is FUBAR IMHO.

Looks like a head is scratching the disk, I remember having a seagate drive do that. I returned it though once I managed to get most of my data off. I don't think there is much you can do. Changing the heads might work, but the platter would be scratched badly.
