WD5000BMVV problem

Hey Gurus,

need your help.
I have WD5000BMVV with USB interface.
It fall me down and after taht I had possiblity to see my data and access some of them.

As for now not at all.
Sympthoms are:

after connecting USB the lamp lits in constant
around 15 seconds after i am hearing "click" inside and lamp starts blinking...

and that's all.

is it electronic to be fixed or something worse?

It's damaged heads with possible media damage as well.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do.
If you value your data, you should consult a Data Recovery professional, who will evaluate the drive and go from there.
If data is not important, bin it and move on.

once stupid question - if I would buy another one and change the heads by myself?
I know that opening at home isn't a good idea but if i will be very carefull?
Can I do that or it's too risky? In othe words can it be done or not at all?

Sure, it can be done, but chances of success are very slim, thus higher risk of screwing up.
There is much more to the recovery process than "just changing heads" and it works. Well, of course, if still considering as priority maximizing chances of recovery.

I was just wondering why this is so expensive then!
But if you are saying that I will more likely screw this up I will need to pay a lot...

WD5000BMVV it is an internal model for Western digital my passport portable hard drive.
If you can hear a clicking noise coming from your hard drive, most likely it is damaged read/write heads. I'm not recommending you to try changing it, because even if you will do it successfully most of the time you will need data recovery equipment in order to extract the sectors or get the data back. You can it end up with wasting money for donor parts and making your case even more complicated.
