Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi HDDGuru,
I have a WD Passport 1TB drive that is used as a backup (not time machine) for a MAC. It has a Micro USB interface for the hard drive and not a SATA port. No computer I put it in seems to recognise it, tried Windows, Mac and Linux and no luck. It powers on and the light is on and the disks spin but nothing happens when it is connected and there are no damage noises coming from it - it sounds healthy, the only luck I've had is seeing in the BIOS. I'm not sure what else to do. Is there any way to get access to it again?
Thank you.

Could possibly be a connection issue on the micro USB socket, check this first.
Otherwise (more likely) it will be a firmware issue, and/or bad sectors on the drive preventing initialisation. Due to the USB only nature of the drive, DIY options are limited

Also on a DIY basis, would worth check your usb cable before anything else.
After that, I think you should go for a pro if your data is valuable.
