Seagate ATA Locked

July 18th, 2013, 1:14

I have a Lenovo Laptop 3000 N 100 which went bust yesterday, the Motherboard is beyond repairs.
It had a HDD from Seagate with three partitions C, D & E:
Model #: ST9250315AS
Serial # 6VCLC6VH
I used to login the laptop using the BIOS password then onto the Windows XP logon feature.
To my best of knowledge i never created a HDD password in the BIOS, (not that sharp memory now, maybe i might have)
I removed the HDD to transfer the content to another laptop/ desktop / drive / server however I found that it had a password lock, since the password was the same as registered in the BIOS since last few months, I tried but would not open, after 5 attempts it would re-boot.
Some research on the Google came up with ATA password lock.
Proof of owner ship can be provided of the HDD.

Please help :( :weep:

I will admit that I know little about ATA paswords,
BUT, I was interested so take a look at this link:

http://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?t=12257&start=20
(it was actually the first result in google for ata password search terms)

also this may help:
http://hdd-tools.com/products/rrs/ as was mentioned with a little background here: https://wikis.utexas.edu/display/ISO/Breaking+ATA+password+security

also, when you solve it, please post the method that worked for others help in the future :-)

cheers

Sure password is correct?
Also, some passwords can be keyboard specific, such as the keyboard from the original lenovo laptop the drive came out of.

There is a thread here on the forum talking about that if I recall correctly.

Some laptops hash the password before setting it, so password you set through the laptop BIOS is different to actual password on the HDD
