Toshiba MK2552GSX failed

Hello all

I have a toshiba MK2552GSX HDD2H02 drive (image attached). This drive doesn´t do anything at all, it seems that it doesn´t power up. I read some threads in this forum (http://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?t=20683&start= and http://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?t=18533&start= ) and i know that swap pcb won´t work if i don´t change ICs, so i discarted that option. But also mentions a fuse near SATA +5V that can be blow, but in my pcb i can´t find (or recognize) any fuse, can anyone help me please?

Close to the "2" where Q302 is printed on the PCB.

The fuse has a tiny "2" on top.

You have to change the fuse (red arrow), but before powering the drive again you have to check if there are shorted components.
If you power the drive again with bridged fuse you risk a disaster, to check components you need a multimiter, also you will need a hot air soldering station for soldering those tiny components.

I would check first all capacitors (orange components), expecially those around the shorted fuse to be sure they're not shorted.
Also diode D301 is prone to shorting.

Hi there!

Thanks for your replies, i removed the fuse and shorted the two points and now it´s working. I plan get all the data from the disk and remplace it. I don´t know how can the fuse blow out, it was on a external enclosure, and the usb port it´s fused on 500 ma.

You risked a lot, because u didn't know if there were shorted components.
You could burn the head pre-amp, but now you know that the problem was only on the fuse, it can happen if there is bad water with lightnings or due to an high inductive overcharging and some problem in your electric network at home (example a bad washing machine can generate strong surges).

D301 is a Schottky diode in a switchmode converter, probably the Vcore supply.

Assuming you meant to draw the OP's attention to the 5V TVS diode, this would be to the left of the fuse.
