Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 sounds... is it fried?

Newbie here.

My NAS drive stopped working while I was out of town. Roomie finally unplugged it, but I'm afraid it's too late. The drive is a Seagate Barracuda 1 TB 7200.12. If more info is needed, just ask.

Some of you guys seem to be able to discern whether the problem is a spindle failure, bearing, whatever, based on the sound, so here it is. Yes, the drive gets backed up, but there were some recent files on it, as well as some.... ahem... "video" files that I didn't have space to back up. Not worth sending off to data recovery, but if a new PCB might fix it long enough to copy files off of it, I'd be ecstatic.

Maybe your SMOOTH motor controller chip is damaged, if so you need to change the pcb and do the rom swap to make it work again.
But usually, this kind of sounds indicates a head stuck problem or bearing spindle problem, if so this are not DIY because it's necessary to open the drive in clean room.

P.S.
Have you pull out the drive from NAS and try to power on it with another power supply?
Sometimes this is due to a failing power supply.

Yes, I pulled the drive an connected it to a USB to SATA cable, which uses its own power supply. Ini fact, that's how it was running when I captured the audio. All of my computers these days are laptops and netbooks, so I don't have a desktop to install it in to see if it is detected. I thinking about getting a $50 box at Goodwill, just for this sort of thing.
