Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi
Its good to be part of the forum. I am relatively new to DR and are learning loads from reading past posts. I have a question about the WD MyBook USB Encryption. I know the drive is encrypted through the USB board. So I guess if I recovered a drive using a DDI, the new drive would not read as the USB board is paired to the old drive, is that right?
If this is the case, am able to tack down a similar USB board and complete a chip swap to make it read? I only have the basic DDI, not the USB version.

there is not enough information provided to answer this question
you need to specify type of the USB chip and form factor of the drive

This was more of a general question about the make up of the drive, rather than case specific. Are you saying in that case they are all different?
