Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi I've a Maxtor DiamondMax 21 320 GB that is not recognized by bios.
I've powered on the HD and sounds seem to be ok. I've seen that there are a lot of discussions and instructions about DiamondMax 22 Firmware Busy status.
I've tried to apply RS232 but I didn't succeed to have the prompt back to hyperterminal and still don't know if what works for DiamondMax 22 is ok also for 21.
Thanks in advance for any kind of help in recovery a littel piece of my family life.
PS: I've tried to change PCB but it didn't change

I don't think there is much that you or anyone can do remotely, to diagnose and repair this. Special equipment is needed. Sorry.

Agree with Jono.
Why don't you take your drive to a pro, so at least you can get a free quote and a proper diagnosis?

DM21 and 7200.10 drives have different serial rs232 port speed.
I think the correct one is 19200.
DM22 and 7200.11 drives need to be set to 38400.
If you set to 19200 you should have access to terminal prompt, then maybe someone can help you, but don't apply any commands from 7200.11 family.
Bye.
