Does the drive still spin up?

Have you tried updating the firmware again?

According to various threads at WD's and Seagate's forums , the "Initio Default Controller" ID can occur if the drive's serial EEPROM is corrupt or cannot be detected, or if the drive is not getting sufficient power from the USB port.

The bridge IC also IDs this way when it is preparing itself to receive a firmware download.

Yes , it still spins when i plug it in to PC , but it cannot be detected by WD updating software , even in Disk Management , so that i can't do anything to it through a PC now...

How does UVCView or USBDeview detect your drive?

jeez Franc, I searched for that tool after you mentioned it to add the info to my USB research. I searched the net and all links came up dead, so I stuck with Nirs tool and the MSInfo32. And it has been here all along.. doh!

UVCView is a Microsoft tool. For some inexplicable reason, Microsoft pulled it from its web site many years ago. I've been making it available from my own web space since then.

There was an earlier tool called USBView which shipped on Microsoft's Windows 98 CD.
