i just come back from overseas it was working fine
but coming up zero lba
it picks up no problem in windows and the bios correctly
possible hardware fail or might be headstack problem
im trying to get my data back of all my photos before i send it back to western digital
the drive is less then one week old if that
i got everything map out but i dont know what the data connection pins are on the drive
would anyone know what these are for this type of version.

hello no the drive does not spin up and there no noise at all
been trying to find the correct data lines
which one comes active first
i found some information on other models but not this model
any ideas on the connection data pins.
as this can lead to a lot of combinations
drive pcb pick up fine in windows ok no issues
but zero lba
but the white led is flashing on and off every second
which im sure its not getting the data adress from the micro
i can buy another board and swap the bios over
but i would like to find out what is the main cause.

If the drive is being detected by Windows, albeit with 0 LBAs, then this means that the bridge section is mostly OK, and that the problem is somewhere behind the bridge. It follows that, if you bypass the bridge and connect directly to the SATA Tx/Rx pairs (assuming that is what you are asking), then this is unlikely to make any difference.
I would measure the 1.2V and 3.3V test points, or whatever is appropriate for your board, but I suspect that they may be OK.

If the drive does not spin up but the PC recognises "something" then it could either the PCB or the preamp inside the drive.
I had one like this a few weeks ago and the PCB was fine, but needed a new heads assembly to recover the data
If you have another PCB of same P/N, swap the ROM at U12 and try it.
Usual DIY warnings apply....

thanks for the information guys
i decided to get another board and i swap over the chips
now if this does not work
for sure possible might be a headstack pre amp damaged
then i have to decide is it worth paying more money out
and doing a headswap over.
cost of these just the drive on its own are going around £150 and up
unless i buy another mypassport and hope its the same model
which is a slim chance.
will keep you posted on what the out come is.
and if there is a solution to this issues

My vote is that the heads are stuck to the platters and certainly worth taking a peak under the hood in the clean room.

Hello I have a another board which should work 2060-771692-005 is compatible which is sata connection
it powers up the motor for ten seconds
then shuts down as there is no data passing
I swapped over the U12 chip.
It looks like you have to also swap over the U2 chip which is a 32 flash pin
as it looks like it can not talk with the micro and eprom.
where does U14 come into operation and its fuctions.

hello this is what i thought it might be a bad head issue
but the weird issue is that it post the heads and is showing now 256gb worth of my data.
so i was thinking does the 32 flash pin also contain information
on the drive that needs to be transfer over.
so you dont have to swap over the U2 chip which is a 32 flash pin also

There is no such thing as a "32 flash pin". If you believe this device is a 32-pin flash memory, then I suggest you research its part number.
Otherwise you might start by reading some of the introductory articles in the forum's Knowledge Base.

hello sorry its been a long night trying to sort this out
the 64 pin chip itself is a sdram which is same as flash memory
seen this type of chip on other type boards
the chip has to talk to the process
im thinking this has to be changed also not just the u12 chip
could it be down to the wrong type board
as the original has a u12 and u14 chip
so the replacement is not correct
the replacement board has only got a position for the u12
and not the u14 chip
so can not solder this on
what is the roll of the u14 chip itself

An SDRAM and flash memory are completely different ICs using completely different technology. For one thing, the former is volatile whereas the latter is nonvolatile.
Ask yourself, what happens to the data in an SDRAM when you switch off the power? With your answer in mind, now ask yourself, why would you want to transfer an SDRAM from one PCB to another?

U14 contains the bridge firmware. Since your SATA board does not have a bridge IC, then it will not have bridge firmware.

yes your correct
but of course can work both ways in storing the data also.
just going over the schematics reading about the u14
by swapping over the u12 with the configuration data information it should had work
but of course it does not work
going to try another board.

but of course this flash memory can work both ways in storing the data also on the flash memory for later on
which is needed to talk with the micro direct.
which it does.
it would contain store information on what on the hard drive
once it turn off it stays in the flash.
then when you reboot the information is already there.
im waiting on the correct board with the usb connector but it going take about one week to get to us
will post a update again.

Hi CRAIG have the EXACT same pcb
If the drive does not spin and has NO SOUND ABSOLUTELY, then its 100% GUARANTEED PCB FAILURE!!!
You need to buy same model no. Pcb from hdd-zone.com
I had same drive as you 100% and it failed after a week just like you.
Dont spend money on data recovery because i can guarantee you its the PCB
This drive + PCB are extremely unreliable.
So only need to buy new pcb and transfer both u12 and u14. It worked for me
I actually have a 2060-771761-001 REV A PCB, if you want to buy
