Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

After swapping the ROM to SATA PCB, somehow I was able to read it's SA. at the end some modules can't be read (ROM related). Normally sector can be accessed normally under MHDD, sometime hangs, but a hard reset brings back again to read sectors.
Now at any form when I read ROM, it produces 0 byte file. Tools in use SD Doctor.
What is the valid reason?
P.s: To avoid soldering I need to have ROM read.

i think it's a matter of tools you use . WD doctor have some problems to read some 256k rom and can't read any 512 rom

I read 512K ROM with the tool earlier. but I don't know why it's not working this time.
256K ROM had no issue with 2.5 HDDs, but with some ROYL 3.5", ROM read/write has issue with Doctor, as well as PC3K can't read I heard!
Anyway, re-soldered back.

If you can desolder the ROM, why not place it to a compatible SATA variant?
