st31000528as stops responding

I had a drive I was imaging, about every 7 to maybe 40 minutes it would stop responding(according to the ddi4). To finish the image, I would just power cycle the drive and I would get another 7 to 40 minutes. Just curious, what kind of a drive issue would cause the symptom?

One suggestion is that drive encounters an erroneous sector and there is a problem with relocation process causing drive to hang at each bad block.
