Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi,
I have a 500GB hard disk. Few days back, I accidentally dropped it on the floor. I opened it up and verified the head part is broken (the laser part which touches the disk). Where can I buy that? Is there any website where I can check for the model and see?
Thanks,
SR

Don't do by yourself a head swap, you would lose all you data! Send it to a data recovery professional

Paying attention to the laser part, I'd say unfortunately you don't get a tiny grasp of how in danger your data is right now. Don't play with fire if you haven't got the knowledge and the tools... unless you just want to play around and watch live your hard disk dying. By the way, there's no way you can buy heads sepparate from the whole hard disk, unless somebody took them apart previously. And there are a few reasons for it.
Cheers.
