Hello,
My WD5000AAKS-00A7B2 is dead.
Sticker shows this: 2061-701590-L00 AD
PCB shows 2060-701590-000
Main Chip: 88i8846E-TFJ2
But my PCB doesn´t have the BIOS chip. Please see that attached pictures.
Can I get a new board and recover my data? What chip need to be exchanged?

Hi, those pictures are next to useless.
for better pictures, put the PCB near a white wall or surface, point a desk lamp or something at the wall to make ambient light. Hold the camera still, and take a picture. Don't use a flash.
Theres no excuse for pictures like that, not flaming, just a fact.
if you cant get 1 PCB in a good shot at once try taking 2 pictures of half then the other half.
another option is using a scanner to scan the pcb

While pictures aren't great, I see it has a Marvell chip and I think the Rom code is stored on that one. I think people try and reflash the code, not swap but more experienced ppl will need to help you on that.

What is wrong with the drive. Prehaps you might not need a pcb swap.

Thanks for the replies.
It does not spin up. I do not hear any noise or vibrations.
The drive does not appears at BIOS o Windows.
It doesn´t generate any heat, I can keep it pkugged in for hours and when I touch it it´s cold, unlike a functioning drive.
Could it be a diode?
If I can swap the PCB, do do I reflash the code so I can see the data?

Man, excuse us for insisting, but all those pictures are bad. Use your own logic, are you able to read any inscriptions on any chips using such pictures? We neither. You should have noticed that the scanner set the focus on the PCB gray SATA connector rather than the PCB components.
Pictures apart, try to attach a similar PCB and see if it spins. Also, attach the PCB on its own and try MHDD or similar to see if you can get access to status register, and tell us about results.

I do not have a similar PCB.
I will try to connect the PCB on its own.

Look in your PCB for R64, R67, D3 and D4. Start by testing those components, and tell us what you see with your polymeter.

Measure the voltages at Q1, D2, L1 and L2. Use a screw hole as your ground reference.
I'm not certain that I have correctly identified each of the voltages, but your measurements will help to confirm my guesses.

You CAN take better pictures, you just need to learn how to - and also how to post them. The last one was pretty good - good lighting, good detail, could have been a touch closer and a slightly different angle could have got the numbers on the chip a little better. Biggest criticism for that pic was the size - I just cropped it to get rid of the background and it went from 2MB down to 515Kb.
Don't be afraid to get a good picture of the board, like the one you have, then find a really good picture with the chip detail and cut and past the black chip top onto the good one.. The Fuji FinePix A350 has 5.2MP so should be good enough.
Anyway I hope you get your problem sorted now that the pics are ok
