Hi, try "Partition Find and Mount"
http://findandmount.com/once it has scanned the disk, then I would suggest to choose make an image of the drive.
Is the drive actually 4GB?
once you have an image, you can just mount the image(it will show up as a drive, say V:) you can just copy files, or if the image wont mount, perform data recovery on the image.

Not asking if it spins up as it should. That's fine. The question is if the drive spins down after 10 seconds, let's say?

Spildit wrote:...that involves shifting firmware zone address for the 2 copies of the firmware on the platters in a way that the drive doesn't read Sa at startup, then it provides the oportunity to load from a loader - module 11 - ro we can read firmware tracks or search for modules on the correct location.
I thought the OP indicated the problem drive is a Seagate. Is there a similar solution for a Seagate drive?

It is like saying "can I repair my car with a screwdriver?" You can in some cases, but you need to know what is wrong.
In this case, at the moment you have no idea what is actually wrong with the Hard Disk.... You don't actually believe there is a "Disk Utility" that fixes all hard disk problems do you?
How about you link to the specific page you found that outlined fixing a hard disk with a Linux liveCD and we can evaluate how successful it may be in your case? Or the name of the disk utility.

I got a live cd.. And tried disk utility.. Tried to format with it.. No use..
Right now really fed up with this hdd...
