Seagate 1TB External HD, beeping & not recognised

December 30th, 2013, 19:05

Hey guys,

As you can see in the title I have a Seagate 1TB external hard drive; model number SRD00F1.
Just this evening i was trying to put some photos on to it and it wasn't loading in to the hard drive. So i restarted my laptop, and it wasn't showing up. I disconnected and reconnected the hard drive and it started beeping, the computer made the noise they make when connecting a USB device and then made the noise when disconnecting a USB device, and then the light started flashing. From my reading on the internet and on Seagates website the flashing indicated an error with the drive. Any suggestions on what i can do? I understand that the warranty doesn't ensure data recovery, just a replacement drive, which isn't really much good to me as what i am bummed about is the loss of thousands of photos.

Any suggests on what i can do?

Oh, it is powered via the USB port, i have tried multiple ports and also another laptop...none of which made any difference.

Cheers,

James

Can you provide a recording of the drive and also, try and see if the drive cable can connect to two ports. The drive might need more power. Otherwise try it on a desk top computer.

If it still does not work then you might have a crashed disk. But we need to listen to the sounds it makes.

In the morning I will make a recording and put it on YouTube. I shall also try it on a desktop tomorrow. The Usb can only connect to 1 port.

This is a video of the sound it makes. It is REALLY REALLY quiet, but it is as good as i could get. Tried recording it many times.

That sound at the beginning does sound like the drive is trying to spin up, but I can't be sure. Can you hear the drive spin up at all. when plugged in and also did you try it on another computer to resolve my other question about lack of power.?
