Trying to recover data from hard drive..
The hard drive was dropped and stopped working like 5 years ago (computer wouldnt boot)
So i think its the heads mainly... I would like some information on whether or not it is possible to switch the heads myself and the thing work long enough for me to do some data recovery.. which may take a good 12 hours for a raw recovery.
for the first few times i connected the hard drive it never was recognized so i ended up taking it apart (dumb) already once to check the disc. not knowing what i was doing i put it back together. after a few days on hold the drive is now being recognized for a few moments then acts as if it was disconnected.
I would just like information on changing heads and if it really does kill a hard drive to open it up and it not being in a "clean room". and whats the likely hood of it getting messed up if i do try this?
any information will be greatly appreciated and if anyone has any suggestions on other methods of recovery or getting it recognized via USB/SATA would help out alot.

Ive been trying it after successfully getting it to work for about 15 secs... i was about to detect the drive and open up the drive to see the folders inside.. but as soon as i stalled from one folder to another it started making that sound again and then when i would try to open a folder it would not show anything in it.??? any solutions?

I tried the freezer method for about 10 mins and it works until the drive get warm.. so is this the heads or processor board. I have a board on the way.
