Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi,
I'm new here.
After a power surge, my WD MyBook crashed. I sent it to a company who gave me an estimate for 1800$ to recover the drive.
Seeing as I absolutely do not have this kind of money to spare, I was hoping someone could guide me as to what I should do.
All I really want is a list of the directories/folders that were on the drive (not even the files!) If the files are included, good.. but not necessary.
Anyone have an idea of a company that could help me for a lot cheaper?
Or even a program...?
Thank you!

There are 2 possibilities that may happen to your drive after the power surge.
1. It's PCB limited only (Then the charge would be very low)
2. There may have pre-amp damage also which will lead the case to very expensive one.
The quoted price can be reasonable in your region but the charge would vary region to region.
While I see a type of problem is dealt at 1800USD, on the other side, the same service is made at 600USD at another region.
