WD Passport 750Gb

February 27th, 2014, 6:46

Hello!
I got a problem repairing my Western Digital 750Gb Passport.

Since i broke USB connector, i bought a new PCB from ebay.

The PCB description is: WD7500KMVV-11BG7S0 2061-701675-304 AC USB PCB

Despite the PCB Part Number was slightly different from the original one (new part: 2061-701675-304 AC, broken old part: 2061-701676-304 03P) the minimal requirements for PCB replace (taken from http://stores.ebay.com/hddSupplier/Matching-Guide.html) are satisfied since the HD P/N is exactly the same.

At first try, the HD is detected by windows BUT no volume is mounted. I looked into Disk Manager and i observed my disk was detected as 2TB instead of 750GB. No valid partitions inside.

Then i swapped the ROM chip as suggested by many guides but the result is the same... HD detected but 2TB instead of 750GB and no valid data inside (obviously).

How can it be? Doesn't the ROM chip contains infos about the size of the HD?

What i'm doing wrong?

There's something i can do to make it work?

Thank you.

Which ROM chip did you swap? There are two.

U12 and U14

did you get this working in the end? i've got the same issue, just with my 1GB WD disk... I replaced both U12 and U14
