I have a mixture Seagate ES.2 drives with firmware XR1A and XR36. I would like to upgrade the XR1A to the newer XR36 firmware since I don't want have both in the same array. Seagate and Xyratex have been of no help. I can't even find the XR36 .lod file on the internet. If I get the file, can I use SeaTools (I prefer to use Windows, if possible) or some other tool to update the firmware?

Seagate's firmware update packages include their own SeaFlash tool.

Your tutorial has a lot of useful information in it, thank you.
Any suggestion where I might get Xyratex's the XR36 firmware? When I asked Seagate the tech said he never heard of it, although I believe it was released by Seagate in conjunction with Xyratex.
And when I tried to ask Xyratex... well they don't talk to end users, and I bought my unit on eBay - not from a Xyratex certified retailer. Also, I couldn't find it on Xyratex's FTP site.
