Samsung HD321KJ T166(S)

March 18th, 2014, 19:53

Hi this drive failed-in-place. It does not ID in PC3000 and shows .49MB for size.

(I get the 2 Green lights correctly, but BSY appears after a few minutes.)

Drive spins and no scratchy or clicking sounds. There is NO Terminal output
whatsoever.

Just opened and closed it in the clean-room - it's pristine inside.

Could I get a nudge, please? I am thinking swapping controllers....

Firmware issue I would expect, nothing to do with PCB.

I must have an old copy of the PC3000 manual.

Does anyone know if there is a newer manual that works with
any of the "HDxxx" models of Samsung drives?
Or, is what's written pertinent?

All I get in Terminal screen is in Red letters:
"Techno mode error: unexpected error: drive is not ready
Utility initialization was terminate!"

Ok.

I would try as mr-spokk suggested and try a hot swap.

Use HS to backup the fw on the patient and then clear A-list and smart.
