April 9th, 2014, 11:42

Hello,

I have two external hardisk 500 gb sata 2.5 inches.
I had try to recover a backup image on these drives.

This image was broken and now i am stucked in two different problem and i can't format this.
1- The first drive is in Write protection enable
2- The second drive is full of error when i try to format it under Windows 7 i see an error: "cyclical redundancy error" and i can't erase this disk.

Can somebody help me to recover these drives?
Before trying to recover this backup these drives was working so there aren't hardware problem.

Thank you for your time.

If the drive which is write protected is an encrypted model such as WD Passport or My Book, then very likely the drive is failing to properly initialize and read the encryption key from the drive. You'll most likely need professional recovery in a case like that.

The one with CRC errors may just be bad sectors. Have you tried imaging it using a tool such as ddrescue?
