Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

My Samsung External drive has become stuck and I can't access it, like a clicking noise coming from it.
I opened it up using anti-static box to prevent further problems. The hard drive starts up and the arm gets 25% of the way across and stops there.
Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

Hi,
antistatic is not the issue for opening drives, it is micro/nano dust particles in the air.
You will probably need to take the drive to a DR Company with a lab as mechanical issues aren't DIY often. I suspect you may have tried to nudge the arm over, and if this didn't work after you reassembled, then this only reinforces my advice, and you should not do anything else to increase cost and decrease chances of recovery.

Not DIY fixable.
Best thing to do is contact forum member "buster80", he's a decent pro in Glasgow.
