HDD making sound - not sure what this is. Help appreciated!

May 18th, 2014, 16:52

Hello,

I've got a 5 year old PC that just crashed. I was looking at data recovery options, and I recorded the sound the hard drive makes.
To me it sounds like possibly stiction with the beeping, but not sure about the whirring sound before the beep.

Sound is here as an MP3

The HDD is a segate baracuda 7200.10 400GB.

Any advice on what this sounds like would be much appreciated.

Also any recommended tips for fixing would be great, I didnt have a recent backup, and would like to get some of my personal files from it. Can not afford the expensive solutions as it was a personal computer.

Thanks!

Dee
