Hi,
I have 3 SAS drives for one of my customers, but he dont know wich raid is it;
Now I am trying to image all 3 drives so i can use r-studio or reclaime to determin wich one is it.
is it possible to image them in wondows FTK imager using SAS --> SATA cable ???
by the way it is my first time to work on SAS drives.
and Also I have PC3000 UDMA + DE.
Plz Help.

Connect all drives. If at least one registers correctly, then your set up is good. If set is good is good and can't access data on one of the drives, then
likely media damage on that one particular drive. This is not the norm will all drives, this is more or less exception.
But have to check properly either way...

the Problem is I have only one SAS -> SATA cable; that's why I would like to dd image all 3 then I can extract data, but when I connect single drive it wont show on my computer.
is there a way around it

Sorry i don't have much experience with sas, but if it's media damage on one of the drives you need to image/clone them one by one with something that supports sas and mount the clones back on the array in the same order.
I only Have PC3000 UDMA

also it wont recognize it
all sas drives I have are healthy, but windows wont recognize them when I use the sas sata converter.
is there a way I can mount them and image them with software imager ?

First you need a proper controller...like this: PROMISE SuperTrak EX4650 4 Port SATA/SAS RAID Controller:
http://www.promise.com/storage/raid_cat ... =571&rsn=4Then you need experience, and that you can't buy. Rule No1 in DR (even in Saudi Arabia) don't mess with clients drives...they trust you with their information.

I think that the most logical step right now is to outsource the project to a professional lab who can handle SAS drives. I would suggest that you approach them about only making clones and you recover the RAID, but based on your dependency on programs like reclaime to find the RAID parameters, it is in your client's best interest that you just outsource the entire project. After the project is done, you can then start to invest in the necessary hardware and procedures to handle SAS drives.

For DR, needed SAS HBA controller
such as LSI 2907, Adaptec 1405
RAID controller, use dangerous, as they can record your configuration to disk.
cable SAS > Sata in principle will not work.
At SAS has a different protocol commands.

If you want to image single SAS drives, you need a HBA controller as rightly said by "Tomset" also with Raid controller you can't image single drive.

Salam,
I Lucky see your post and you don't have to worry about anything if drives health are ok and also you are located in Saudi Arabia. I have a partner company in Riyadh recently I have completed few SAS RAID cases of your country online and two is going on. Better if you visit him with SAS hard drives His Name is: Adel Kuhail Company: Osloo Computer Skype: live:aw2611 he have all available tools and software to handle SAS even a rack mounted server with 16 SAS hdd slots.
Better if you do nothing with SAS hdd's if this is 3 i think this is RAID 5 if only one hdd gone you also lose data from 2 others and on RAID hdd's must be a database file without this file company may be stuck for few months even few years... must get the correct info about RAID and stripe volumes.
Hope to see your case online.

addition.
Аlmost all SAS controllers support SATA protocol.

Uff it will not show you any volume.

With
RAID controller you can easily end up having the drives reinitialized. If RAID array has broken up, the only option is an HBA adapter.
If you do not expect getting large arrays in the near future and do not want to spend much, LSI 9211 or Adaptec 1045 can be an affordable option.
Should you decide you need an assistance with this recovery, we can help both having the drives on hands and remotely, working with the images.

Hi
You need SAS Write Blocker, and best software for SAS imaging is FTK.
I check it more than 10 times
