Connect a smaller WD transfer disk to External, LACIE with U

June 4th, 2014, 5:14

Hi,

I wonder if there's a way to make this work. I'm trying to connect a WD transfer disk to a LACIE external. As the main Mac we have doesn't have USB 3.0 capability, I'm hoping to get the USB 3 speed by connecting the two disks directly. (As this works when using FireWire)

But when I connect the drives this way, the smaller WD one does not start up and connect.

Perhaps this is a futile attempt, but if anyone knows if it's possible, please tell!

Not exactly sure if you are trying to connect 2 disks together bypassing the PC or what... can you give a little more detail..

2 devices cannot be connected together, the PC needs to be the USB host.

if a device is USB2, no matter what you do it is not going to speed up.

hello,

I think your Lacie have only different connetors to connect to computer and don't have HUB to connect another disk to it.
In this way your WD doesen't get power

I am confused how it works when using firewire. IIUI the WD doesnt have firewire capability?

Are the ports on the back of the lacie Inputs for other devices? I think not
