Dead hard drive

July 13th, 2014, 22:01

I caught some kind of virus today and thought I would just get rid off it by restoring the system to a previous date(two weeks ago). Everything went smoothly. I got the message that the system had been restored. When I open the internet explorer, the system froze. I restart the computer and it stuck at loading Windows, showing only the Windows logo flashing. Then there was a blue screen with the message of "system dump". The next thing I know I couldn't start the computer at all. I tried to reinstall Windows but there was no hard drive to install it to.

I tried checking the hard drive in a external case to see another computer would recognize it through USB. The power would not even turn on, eventhough it works fine with my existing external hard drive.

Is it really dead? Is it still salvageable? There are some pictures and videos of my kids that I really want to retrieve.

What are my options?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Seems to have sustained an electronics issue possibly, though that is sort of strange.
What is the full model on the drive?
