WD WD5000AAKS 65YGA0 problem

July 15th, 2014, 8:53

Hi,
I have a WD5000AAKS 65YGA0 (yellow) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11301095/IMG_20140714_123336.jpg
The symptoms:
- disk spin up - but not always;
- If it spins the BIOS detects;
- But neither windows nor freebsd nor DOS no longer see;
- If I put it to USB case, the Windows 7 recognizes as a service sometimes , but the disk controller can no longer see it.

It was bootable disk but I have not use for system.
Could anyone has any idea? (I need the data only)

For starters, search keyword "rubber eraser" in the forum and read a bit.

Maybe you are on true, maybe corrosion in spinning contacts, very probably

Maybe you are on true, maybe corrosion in spinning contacts or the preamp and VCM contacts, very probably.

Can you clean it, and report us?

THANKS YOUR HELP!!! I am really really grateful!

The "rubber eraser" was success.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11301095/IMG_20140717_184240.jpg It was the PCB after the opening. It was cleared, and now it is working. I move my data to another disk, and I am HAPPY now!!!! :)

Thanks again!!
