Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I have 166 images that are in a folder that were transferred from a sandisk card to my computer from 5 weeks ago. All images before them and after (about 18 after) copied on to my western digital hard drive without any issue. Since then the card has been formatted.
My issue is the files show up but read '0 bytes'. There must have been something wrong with the card or the copying process is my only guess? When I try to open them in Photoshop, Photoshop cannot open them and says they are unrecognizable. When I tried opening in Lightroom they said the files are damaged or corrupted.
When I try to copy or move them to my desktop, it says 'One or more items in "file name" can't be changed because they are in use.' (In use where???) I tried burning two of them to a DVD to test them out and opening them after but still nothing. However, it took a while to burn and you can see the 'ring' on the DVD that shows data has been burned - that clearly states SOMETHING copied over right?
Is there any way to retrieve them? I only copied them onto my Western Digital external hard rive. I work on a Mac computer with OS X system.

Hello,
if you only format memory card, then you will be able to retrieve data from it.
You can try with R-studio, mini tool power data recovery,..

If the size of a file is 0 bytes, the file does not contain any data.

Possibly a file copy transfer error from memory card to hard drive. Hope files are still recoverable from the memory card.
