Western Digital 2TB WD20EADS 32MB Cache Caviar Green no spin

July 23rd, 2014, 7:16

Dear all,

I have 2TB Western Digital hard drive, which doesn't respond. I connected it through USB-SATA-connector and shortly it shows and is down again after 2-3 seconds. It does a very quiet noise, which is difficult for me to record as it is so quiet.
Something like buuuzz bick bick bick buuzz bick bick - end.
That is all. Here are the data and some photos from the PCB:

Almost certainly a physical (heads) issue. :-(

Oops. And it isn't possible that it is a problem of PCB? And if physical heads issue, would it be possible to rescue the data for me? I have a same hard disc.

On this model, very small chance of PCB issue causing drive to click and spin down. Some "Tornado" series drives had known PCB issues causing these symptoms on rare occasions, but never seen it on this series.

There's a good chance we can recover your data, but you'd have to ship it over to UK.

If it does by some miracle turn out to be the PCB, the cost will be be low :-)

Coincidently enough, I've just come back from Germany. A "business trip" to Hamburg. Reeperbahn and all :-)
