Seagate HDD issue: displays files from other unconnected HDD

July 30th, 2014, 15:02

Hello,

An old HDD I had (Verbatim) was failing, but I managed to get most files to another HDD. However, my Seagate ST2000DL001-9V156 HDD, which was working fine, now shows only the files from the disconnected failing Verbatim drive, along with the wrong capacity (1TB, which was the Verbatim capacity).

I tried to load the drive in different Windows versions (Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Windows 7 Home Premium x86, Windows 8.1 x64, Windows XP, and in a Puppy Linux system), on different machines, but it always shows the Verbatim files. My BIOS shows the correct HDD (ST2000DL....).

I do not wish to format the HDD, because I would like to keep the original files.

Is there any way to make the Seagate HDD stop thinking its the Verbatim drive? I tried to use HDD Capacity Restore tool, but it showed the right HDD and capacity, and gave me the message that no capacity restore was needed.

No. I was able to copy some files (not clone the entire drive) to a drive other than the Seagate.
