I am about to get a Toshiba MK5065GSXF in for recovery. It has been to another DR company and from what I am able to tell from the client, the ROM chip is dead. Is there any chance of recovery with no ROM with this drive family? I have a feeling it might be toast.....

AFAIK there are no available methods to recover Toshiba drives if original ROM modules are lost

Try to read it with a programmer. If that fails, then it's game over.

It is still possible but it is long process (no first aid) and the result MAY be partial (i.e. no full folder structure or some files may be not working). And it would be very expensive.
P.S. seen a lot of toasted rom on Toshiba and Fujitsu 2,5" lately, can't tell what % is user-induced though.
