WD500BPVT makes the click noise.

September 20th, 2014, 10:40

Hello
WD500BPVT makes the click noise.

I have a hard drive of my client.

WD500BPVT makes the click noise. It detects as PC-3000 but does not show the model or size () but I can save ROM but can not see the sector.

in my opinion, the drive Head blocks.

WD5000BPVT
MDL: WD5000BPVT-60HXZT1
DCM: EHOTJHN

What is your advice?

thank you
Best regards

Try to do a ROM Headmap to disable heads and check wich one is bad.
You can also try to use a loader to check if it's really heads or FW problem.

Yes, that's bad heads, probably some surface damage.

But what this will give for the clicking hard drive?
If a drive clicks, it can't read servolabels, so heads are to be replaced.

Headmap and loaders are the instruments for non-clicking hard drives. A reasonable check here would be to test the PCB by replacing it with a surely working one (after a ROM transfer).
If nothing has changed after that, then do a head swap, which in its turn will allow to judge the surface condition.

Hi,

As you have already been told, the heads are bad.

I advise you to stop messing with this CLIENTS DRIVE and seek pro help for Cleanroom work.

Good luck :-)

hello
As I am a beginner so I need your help .

I have every tool to remove the hard drive (Cleanroom and HDDSurgery WDC 2.5 "-3.5" Ramp Set)

I can not find the hard drive on the same google.
To change head drive. We must find the hard drive the same model, MDL, DCM ?

You can buy tools but not knowledge....

Frank, with all respect....If that had been your drive how would you like it to be handled?

Re: WD500BPVT makes the click noise.

Information wants to be free.

If it were my drive, I would learn how to fix it myself, whatever the cost.

And that is exactly what 99.99% of the common user is NOT able to do, and needs to rely on other with their important data.

"Common users" do not have PC3000 or Cleanroom and HDDSurgery WDC 2.5 "-3.5" Ramp Set.

That's true, but he also admitted he's a "beginner". Which is fair enough, everyone has to start somewhere, but I wouldn't want a "beginner" working on my drive with my precious data on it.

So on this occasion, I advised outsourcing to an experienced lab.

Negative.

I can smell 'things went bad with this drive' from down here.

Hello on those zephyr drive physical headmap is trycky, preamp revision too

Just hope that you didn't scratch the platters by power up / down several times the HDD.

Not a easy drive to start with, in fact all customers drive are not good to start with, better to practice on stock HDD that you will kill for knowledge and practice.

Anyways Good Luck

hello
Yes I am a beginner but I have experience in repair of laptop graphics chipset.

I try removing the drive head on a good hard drive similar but not the same PN. I walk up the drive head, there is no problem. Hard drive fonctione correctly.

With the advice of Mr lcoughey .I ordered another hard drive that is the same model and P / N and the same month and year.

I'll try and I'll keep you running.
